Chris Kalina: I started playing chess in 1993. The Seattle Chess Club was then located in the Ravenna area. In the early 2000’s, the Club then moved up to Shoreline off 15th Ave NE. Now located in Northgate, the club conveniently located with easy access to Interstate 5. Friday night is the main night where rated games are played.
Sean Tobin: Fantastic chess club with fantastic people! If you want to improve while being located in Washington state then this is the place to be!

Dalton: It's hard to beat the training level and sense of community at this gym. The owner instructors and training environment are top notch. The mats are kept clean and so many concepts are included in day to day training despite a heavy focus on fundamentals and essential skills. Top tier gym and sad I have to leave.
Lemon Juice: The workouts that they did was truly amazing it it definitely made me feel like I’m progressing in my techniques, even if it was my first time going into that gym. The community there was a very nice the people there were nice the teachers, the coaches, the members they made me feel very welcome.
Floyd Miracle: I came into town for a business trip, and the owner welcomed me into his gym. I showed up for morning class and everyone was welcoming and respectful. There was no ego and I felt like I had been training there for months. The instructor provided the perfect amount of detail and was open to answering questions even though I was dropping in. The gym was very clean, and the atmosphere was perfect. I can't thank them enough. I'll definitely be back on future trips!

I find nothing but the best coach Andrew teach the BJJ classes he is not just so knowledgeable in martial arts but he is "such class" he always understanding and wants his students to move forward. Coach Roy who teaches the striking classes always hold great training sections!The team at mat chess is great good people every one there pushing you to be your best I met such nice people who I would call brothers.If you visiting in town or looking for home gym mat chess would be a great choice.

Rohan Thanedar: Amazing experience! I am visiting from Chicago and was able to drop in for the evening nogi class with a friend who trains here. The head instructor, Andrew, was very kind and welcoming and taught a great class to boot. The room was full of great grapplers and everybody was very friendly! I was completely exhausted by the end of the rolls and left satisfied.10/10 would train here again, thanks for having me!

Vinayak Goyal: I've been to their weekend open mats twice now and this place is absolutely amazing. Andrew and everyone at this gym are super welcoming. The rolls are always super tough and technical. Andrew also gave me some really great technical advice after our roll and I can't wait to implement that in my game! I'll be back here for sure.
David McCoy: Visited Seattle and dropped in for a night. Andrew and Jacob are welcoming and hospitable. A good culture of athletes who take care of their training partners and appreciate the arts. I would definitely come back in the future.
Yonas Meshesha: I highly recommend training at Mat Chess if you are anywhere near the area! I joined for the Jiu Jitsu class and the instruction by Andrew was very in depth and thought out. The athletes were very friendly and welcoming with drilling/rolls. The facility was large and clean, a solid gym.
