Stephen Smith: I came down from Canada for a Mariners game and wanted to check this place out after the game, as I’ve heard good things. It’s amazing! I wasn’t in the market for any big instrument purchases, but got some picks and an instructional book. I had such a fun time checking out the mandolins, banjos, dulcimers, and ukuleles. I know nothing about harps but admired the ones they make in house. And I was so happy to finally go to a music store that stocks quality ukuleles and not just the cheapest entry level ones available! I had a great conversation with one of the employees about ukuleles and another one at the cash register who checked me out. They were both super friendly and helpful. This place is amazing and now I know I have to come by whenever I’m in Seattle!

Anna Hagen: From harps to stools to harp specific pickups, Dusty Strings products are some of the best investments I've made as a musician and performer. Great products and great people!I'm a fulltime professional harpist and my first Dusty Strings purchase was the padded harp stool-- I've carried it to every gig for 15 years and it is a back saver! Then I installed the Dusty Strings pickup in my pedal harp. Despite the nerves of applying glue to my instrument, the installation was easy and the pickup made gigging instantly better! I can plug in by myself or connect with a sound engineer in a minute. Because I could amplify and not strain myself trying to be heard, I recently performed 28 gigs in one month. I've used their pickup so much I've installed two more in my 36 string lever harp and 25 string lap harp!But the best thing is the Dusty Strings team. They are so gracious to work with. Whenever I had a question about their products and my harps, I would call and get wisdom and tips from people who are obviously passionate about their products. I love any chance to interact with them.

Kaya Peterson: I went here to rent a banjo yesterday and the customer service exceeded all expectations. I'm a beginner and they gave me an extremely thorough overview of the instrument and just generally seemed to really care about music and the instruments and enjoy introducing people to those topics. In addition, the rental process was simple and a fair price, in my opinion. I'd highly recommend going to this store, we are lucky to have local businesses like these in Seattle!

Susan Canfield: I recently went to Dusty Strings with a precious guitar made by my husband in the early 1970s. He passed and I wanted to get it repaired so it can be played at his memorial service. The two Jacobs I met with there were exceptional. Jacob P was sensitive and helpful with my request, and Jacob C did a beautiful job on repairing the guitar in time for the service. He did an assessment, explained each step of the repair process, and communicated along the way. Rarely does one see such thoroughness and pride in workmanship as demonstrated by Jacob C. I highly recommend him, if you ever need repair work on your musical instrument. Thank you Jacob C and Jacob P!

He generously lent me a high-end Bach Strad trumpet at a very fair price and did so with consummate professionalism and support for my professional needs as I was waiting for my Shires horn to be repaired. chloe mai: ive had a great experience here. the three times I have ruined my trumpet this year ted brown's repair guy Tim was always reliable, fast, super kind, and very reasonable! the last time, I totaled my bell and one of the spit valves. I went to another repair place that I've heard great things about, and they didn't even take a single look at my trumpet. they just told me that they were lined up with appointments until a month later and that it would be $100. So ofc I went back to Tim and he fixed the whole thing for only $25! I was back playing again the next day. This guy really goes above and beyond. he doesn't try to fool or trick u into thinking that the fix would be hard and costly. hes super honest and straightforward. Ted Brown will always be our go to repair shop from now on.

He helped me find an upgrade, walked me through shipping, was quick to respond, and was very knowledgeable about my rental history and available discounts. Over the years, I figure I probably have saved two or three thousand dollars by using the Music & Arts program that grew with my three kids. I strongly recommend these stores for homeschooling and for personal music education. They really went above and beyond with me.

I also loved the office staff! They were always so helpful and quick to respond to emails and texts. Highly recommend for any level. And yes, my dream: I want to be able to accompany myself while I sing standards. My very secret dream is to play at a bar regularly for one hour before happy hour when there are not that many people around. I was searching for a piano teacher to expand my musical horizons - I have played brass instruments at a "strong amateur" level for many years, and wanted to learn keyboard to get better at theory and improvisation. My teacher Caleb was wonderful. He was quickly able to hone in on what I wanted out of lessons, and what I needed to do in order to get there, allowing me to set my own pace and giving me just the right level of direction, motivation and accountability. I had a bad experience in Middle School but it changed forever in Highschool. Most students don’t like seeing this black and white they rather have color coded like i did from the last 5 years with being with the whole school. All the staffs are trying to spread by saying that we want our students to love music and maybe in a band. I want to thank my good friend Chris Marx.

Ingrid Wheelock: As an older student, I've found Sound Music School an amazing, enriching experience. I've taken both guitar and vocal lessons here, and both of my instructors have been outstanding. Mike Keeney has put a ton of work into creating a topnotch school; he has taken time to choose instructors who know how to TEACH, which is a skill not all musicians possess. The emphasis on affordable weekly lessons helps to ensure improvement and increases connection with one's instructor. I can't say enough about this great school!

Shiyu Wang: I have been learning guitar here for a year. One year ago I brought an old guitar here can’t play a whole song, but now I am much confident in playing rock guitar songs that are pretty advanced. If you are trying to improve your guitar skill and a be a serious student, then this is the right place to go.
Erica Miller: I highly recommend taking guitar lessons with Mike Keeney. I started lessons by taking advantage of his free trial lesson which was awesome for me. I've had instructors in the past who I realized weren't the best match for what I was I was trying to accomplish and the trial lesson gave me the space to feel out if Mike was going to be a good match for me! After the trial lesson I immediately knew Mike was going to be professional, skilled, easy to work with, and open-minded. I really appreciated that Mike was down to go outside of your standard lessons in music theory and cater my experience in a way that would fast track me to what I wanted to accomplish within my lessons. As a self-taught musician who has been playing in touring bands for about the last 4 years I had a lot of different strengths and weaknesses. Mike helped me hone in on areas that would allow me to boost my confidence in practices and live performances while developing skills to better communicate musically with my bandmates. I believe Mike is the perfect instructor for all skill levels and backgrounds. He is an extremely talented and versatile musician. In addition to his abilities as a musician and instructor, he is patient, easy to communicate with, motivating, and understanding.
Nancy Taing: I was excited, but intimidated going in because I'm convinced I am musically-challenged. As a beginner, Mike made it easy not to get discouraged so early on. Mike covers a lot in 30 mins. I like that he gives a variety of things to work on, and provides ample feedback on ways to improve. This is perhaps the best Groupon I've ever found.
Alex Samano: Mike has been teaching our 6 year old for about 6 months. He is reading music, playing chords, and even the Pokemon song. Mike is great encouraging him and keeping him engaged.
Kelsey Coleman: My family gifted me a Groupon for ukulele lessons with Mike and I'm so glad they did! Mike is really friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and encouraging. He knows just how to keep a beginner, like me, motivated and I’m sure he could help folks with experience improve upon their skills. He has worked with me on songs that I really love, which makes practice fun. The sessions are short, but he makes sure you get the most out of them. I’m even continuing with lessons after the Groupon period is over!

I've always been a bit shy about playing guitar but feel at ease with Mike. I was also impressed with how quickly and competently he was able to assess my current skill level and provided specific exercises and tips to help me progress from exactly where I'm at today. I left my first lesson feeling empowered and inspired. I've worked with other very talented musicians and teachers, and I have to say, Mike Keeney is exceptional. Also, his fee's are very reasonable, and his office is comfortable and conveniently located on the south end of Aurora in Fremont.

I've had the privilege of taking lessons with Mike in the past and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. Whatever it is you are looking to improve: technique, performance, rhythm/timing, music theory etc... Mike will help you work towards and achieve any of your musical goals. Above all Mike is a great listener, which goes a long way when learning a new instrument or skill set. If I lived in Seattle I would most definitely continue taking lessons with Mike. Marc Bashaw: Can't teach an old dog new tricks???? Not the case if you have the pleasure of attending Mikes guitar school. I started taking classes with Mike as an absolute beginner and after the first 30 minute lesson I walked away wanting more and confident that I could actually learn to play guitar.If you listen to Mike play you will be blown away and luckily for his students he has decided to share his knowledge to others. His passion for guitar and music is easily noticeable and the fact that he will cater your lessons to a particular music style you are interested in is a huge bonus. The best part of taking lessons with Mike is he is an awesome guy, he wants to teach you, you will want to learn and he gets excited seeing his students transition into musicians.Do your self a favor and grab lessons with Mike, your inner Rock Star will thank you!
Rebecca Fields: I had Mike as a guitar teacher for about maybe three years when he was in Palatine, Illinois, and he was the best teacher I have had. He was patient when I would mess up, but wouldn't let me off the hook when I didn't practice enough. He pushed me to become a better guitarist. I was able to enjoy myself while learning an instrument in a way that I understood and was beneficial. If I ever move to Seattle I would most defiantly have him be my guitar teacher again.

Operating out of a uber-cozy, zen-like studio off Aurora Ave, he offers a free first lesson, which I thought was cool.I played the trumpet in high school and college, and wanted to commit to getting back into music. He developed a custom program for me to learn songs but also the musical theory behind them, so I could apply the learning process to other songs on my own. Mike combines an enthusiasm for music with a solid framework for showing progress and accomplishing goals with lessons.I'd definitely recommend Mike to anyone at any point in their musical journey!
C Drewes: Mike is an excellent guitar teacher. My 12 year old daughter took lessons from Mike for 2 years. He worked with her both on acoustic and electric guitar. Mike has a huge range and brings that to the student by tailoring what he is teaching to their interests. Mike is great to work with overall. He spent time with us on several occasions researching, recommending, and setting-up new equipment. Mike's passion for creativity and precision with the guitar is evident & contagious. We miss him here in the Chicago area but enjoy listening to his CD's!
Tara Schreiner: . Mike instantly got to know Benett to determine what would help inspire Benett musically. With Mike's funny disposition, astute video game knowledge and eclectic musical taste, he was able to quickly climb into my son's head. Mike expertly taught Benett guitar fundamentals and managed to keep him coming back for more. Benett looked forward to his sessions with Mike and practiced independently so that he wouldn't let Mike down. Because of Mikes instruction, Benett made the middle school Jazz Band and he worked with Benett to solo by age 13. Mike worked with Benett for three years before relocating to Seattle. We were sad to see him leave Chicago. Mike is a great teacher, a positive mentor and an insanely talented musician

His lessons are very fun and informative and I looked forward to going. He even helped me prepare for an audition for my school's jazz band and I was invited to join! My brothers also took lessons from him and had the same great experience. I highly recommend him!

Jamison Johnson: I have had multiple lessons for piano, trumpet, and guitar at music factory. The musicians are local area favorites and play with known acts and projects locally and nationally/internationally in different genres as professional musicians. They also know how to work with small children all the way to adults to learn and grow in what they consider success. They have opportunities for recitals to get some experience playing for others in fun venues and put on some fun student shows that are supportive and kind for all. I highly recommend taking lessons from them and becoming part of their growing music family like I have. You won't regret the joy and education you or your children receive with care.

Jonathan Kilian: Both of my kids are taking piano lessons at Meter Columbia City. The kids love the teacher, learning songs of their choice and gaining skills sets they never expected to have. Meter even does an annual recital at the Royal Room that was beyond fun and so well planned. Meter has gone above and beyond with COVID protocals that have kept my kids safe since joinging in 2021. You can't lose with Meter for kids and adult lessons.Special shout out to teacher Emily Stephenson. She gained the trust of our kids quickly and keeps challenging them 4 years later.
