Seattle Academy: what do users think?

Sub Pop: My daughter was karate chopped in the throat in 7th grade by another kid on accident :/

Melissa Crow: Love it!! 😍

Sara Rankin: We are a biracial family that came to SAAS after public elementary and middle school. We have been blown away by the expertise and care given to our 2 very different children from the administration and faculty. Great resources, facilities, academic and administrative support. Whole school focus is on inspiring growth and supporting totally well rounded individuals that are ready to succeed, be passionate, and live healthy, balanced lives to the fullest. We are so grateful for this community.

TJR: and liberal arts.

Juan Guerra: i have taken my three children to this school from middle school to high school and the support and structure this school gives has been priceless

Spring Academy: what do users think?

Kendra: As parents, we were drawn to Spring Academy because of the credentials of its leadership and faculty, the school’s accreditations, and that it is a local school tied to the community. After enrolling our child, we can now say first-hand, that Spring Academy is a wonderful school that provided the “just-right” supportive environment and academic structure our child needed to thrive again after a medical setback and because the traditional school setting did not work. I encourage you to meet with their amazing principal and teachers. This is a really special school.

Mishele Maron: Hi, my daughter Elodie attended Spring Academy during that first pandemic year when it was clear to us that a traditional online school setting in high school would not meet her academic needs. My kid has ADHD and dyslexia and while intelligent and hardworking, her processing speed requires a steady, patient, presence to help walk her through both math and reading assignments. The Spring model, which pairs one teacher to two students, has this built in support and accountability model. As the teacher pivots back and forth between the students, students are left briefly alone with tasks, but the teacher is constantly checking in. Due to the highly interactive and intense model, the student absorbs content at an accelerated pace. Elodie has succeeded in classes at Spring that would have been impossible in a 1-30 teacher studio ratio at our local public Lincoln high school. After that, we lobbied and successfully won permission from SPS for Elodie to have a dual enrollment, allowing her to attend classes at our local public high school, and supplement math and English at Spring. So she absorbed academic content but also had a challenging and engaging social environment.Elodie has had three or four different teachers at Spring and all of them have been top notch. We did not once have any issues. The principal, Frank Hewins, also continually checked in with her progress. I have referred ten or fifteen families to Spring in the last few years. Whatever reason a family might seek a school like Spring, to support a student's learning style, supplement home schooling, or enrich the learning of a student so they might gain more academic confidence in themselves, I really recommend Spring as a worthy investment.

Patty Bardina: The teachers at Spring Academy worked with my child's school to be able to support her dyslexia during the school day. She felt very supported with the class material, and the tutoring alleviated the amount of homework she brought home. I'm grateful it worked out so well!

Tanya King: We found Spring Academy during a stressful and chaotic time for our family-especially my 9th grade son. From the first time we met with Frank and Rob, they were kind, calm and non-judgmental and we knew our son would be in good hands. He was productive and successful in finishing out his 9th grade year. He worked hard and learned a lot- he was able to move quickly at times but also ask questions and remediate as needed all due to the one-on-one learning environment. His teachers were patient and flexible as there were times he had to work remotely. The Spring Academy is a great concept and all cities/school districts would be lucky to have something similar. We plan to use them again for tutoring or summer school. Thank you Spring Academy for working with our son & family!

Heather Thorne: My son went to Spring Academy after struggling in his freshman year of high school. Spring Academy not only brought him up to speed, but he excelled and now loves learning! He graduated in 2021 and was accepted to the college of his choice. I couldn't be happier with my son's education and the fact that Spring Academy gave him confidence in his academic ability. I would recommend this school to anyone!

Richard A. Wright: Our child, who normally thrived in school, fell apart with online learning during the pandemic. Spring Academy really saved the day. The one on one teaching and the excellent content really engaged my child in a way that larger classes couldn't. This is a great alternative to public school.

Alexis Polebitski: , and we were all so elated to see how much she had improved in areas with which she was struggling! Our family can’t thank Spring Academy enough. We are forever grateful for all of their help!

Veronica Flores: I am going to put it in Spanish because I know that there are many parents like me, for me and especially for my children, working with the therapists at Spring Academy was a wonderful experience. I think it is important for a child to feel good when working on their therapy. In these times of technology, having a connection with the therapist is something essential 😉 and it is something that I thank you for meeting the needs of each of the children.😍🙏👍

Harvey Family: We are so grateful for all that Spring Academy has done for our son. He has improved both socially and academically thanks to the dedicated staff and tutors who truly care about each individual child.

Sam Benefiel: My daughter has been thriving at Spring Academy since she started Spring quarter in 8th grade. With the extra attention she receives from her teachers, her grades have improved significantly. She gets along well with her teachers and I appreciate that the staff is responsive with communication. It was especially fortunate during the closure of schools due to COVID-19, because Spring Academy was able to transition immediately and seamlessly to online instruction. Instruction time is very efficient, so even with a fully loaded schedule, she spends only four hours per day, two days per week. That allows us to have more family time together and for her to pursue other interests outside of school. I recommend Spring Academy for students who have a hard time focusing in large class sizes and who could benefit from on-on-one instruction.

S H: Our daughter has attended Spring Academy this past school year. She was behind academically at the end of 8th Grade and needed more attention than she had received in her previous school. What attracted us to Spring Academy was its one-on-one tutoring which is what our daughter really needed. It has been a great experience and she has made great strides in catching up, even in math, her most difficult subject that she has struggled with. The staff have been incredibly supportive, and responsive if there were any concerns. We have no hesitation in recommending Spring Academy to others.

padget dean: My teenager has been struggling in public school for quite some time. His self-esteem was shot. Based on a recommendation from his neuropsychologist we decided to try a learning environment where he would receive individual teaching. We found Spring academy close to where we live, so decided to give it a go. It has been wonderful for our son. He's learning and doing well on his tests and his self-esteem is back! He gets along great with his instructor and the staff and are very friendly and genuinely interested in his well-being. Highly recommended!

McLean Thompson: I learned more than a full year of math in one semester here. By learning other things as I went, I learned everything I should have learned in public school in the last several years to a much higher level of understanding than I originally had.

Mark Montstream: My 8th grade son started to have significant struggles 2/3 way through the school year and we needed to get him into a to program quickly while keeping him on track academically. Principal Ryan Malone worked with us to tailor a program which fit our needs and our time schedule. For 2.5 months, Spring Academy was THE school my son attended. He loved his teacher/tutor - her calm demeanor and encouraging personality boosted by son's esteem and allowed him to make steady academic progress. Administrators Ryan and Rob also connected with my son and offered additional encouragement and support. Even though my son has transitioned to a larger, more traditional high school he still takes the bus up to periodically visit Ryan and Rob because he really likes them and continues to feel support from them. Great people. Great experience.

GSM 1: The Spring Academy offered a natural transition from the great progress our son made at the Lehman Academy with some executive function challenges. The pacing of the work is one of the greatest attributes of the program. His forward progress is based on him demonstrating proficiency with the subject matter. If it takes a little longer, his teacher is there to patiently support him. He is also given the opportunity to test out of specific sections for which he is proficient. The Spring Academy’s curriculum is accredited in Washington State and there are several objective forms of measurement by which our sons progress is monitored. For our family the subjective forms of measurement are meaningful as well. He is always ready to go his twice a week, hour long session at the Spring Academy. Most often he is smiling when we pick him up as he tells us about how he “gets it” or that he just did well on an exam.We are also appreciative of the Principal Ryan Malone. He was very generous with his time in helping us decide if the Spring Academy would be a good fit. The accredited curriculum along with Ryan’s help made it easy to substitute his math class at Seattle Public Schools with another subject. Our son will receive full credit for his Math class conducted at the Spring Academy. The Spring Academy offers a very flexible schedule which gave us lots of options for our son’s busy extracurricular schedule. We really appreciate that they are open till 7pm.We are very happy to have found the Spring Academy and would recommend it to anyone seeking help for a student experiencing a learning challenge.

Mama Schonna: Spring Academy change my child's whole perspective towards Math. If you have a child struggling, send them here. It changed my child's life.

Antonio Montstream: This is an Amazing school. Great academics and a great place to do work. A very welcoming and friendly staff. I love my teacher and really recommend this school to anyone out there.

Robin McManamin: could not have been happier. While math is not his favorite, he realized that as a college-bound student, he would need to have pre-calculus and he was determined to do better. We chose Spring Academy as it utilizes one-on-one instruction and felt it was optimal for his comprehension of the material. He liked his teacher a lot. One of the best things about Spring Academy is that he needed to take this class "outside" of his regular school hours AND he was a football player. Spring Academy allowed our son to start the classes after football season and worked hard to accommodate his schedule. From the administration to the instructor, I feel that Spring Academy cares about its' students and their success. Highly recommend them.

Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy: what do users think?

Kevin Vaughan-Carber: Dropped in here while visiting the area. Great gym. Clean mats with a nice strength/conditioning area. Technical instruction. Training partners in the 11AM class to suit a wide range of skill levels. Would feel comfortable here as a beginner or experienced competitor.

Karl Barmuta: Brian is an amazing instructor and his school is one of the best, and cleanest gyms around! Update edit: Going on 9 years of training and still feel this way.

Raymond Sue: This is the absolute best place to learn and train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Seattle. Professor Brian Johnson is not only an incredible competitor, he also provides world class instruction. There’s a great mat culture and an all round team of supportive students from all walks of life. It’s an immaculately clean facility free of egos. If you’re looking to try BJJ first time or are looking for a gym to drop into from out of town, I can’t recommend NWJJA enough.

MLZ: Top notch academy

Allie Enriquez: . Brian learned my name immediately and he has a very clear coaching style, but also makes sure we are challenged so things dont get boring. I would highly recommend Northwest Jiu Jitsu Academy!

Amy Claxton: We have had a great experience with this school for both of my 2 kids. I had them in Chinese Immersion. It’s all Mandarin, except there is also a Pre -K portion in English for that age group. Good hot lunches and snacks also provided. Communication is good as well!

Ching Fong: My two children attended IMA from the toddler program through the Chinese Immersion program, including summer camps. I like that organic lunches are included, there's PE, extended care until 6 pm. Optional extracurricular activities are seasonally offered. When my attached child has a hard time getting into class, he's treated with empathy and recovers quickly. I'm proud of how the teachers and faculty at IMA have helped me raise my kids.I wish foreign language was offered during summer camp. Note that tuition is nonrefundable. My emphasis of education for my kids are on improving language skills, practicing life skills, developing self confidence/reliance and empathy towards others. Success at this school helped them set a solid foundation for the next stages of elementary school.[Updated] The playground structure renovated 2019.

Alissa Allison Gao: in the class.

Devin M: My son has been going here in the toddler class for the last six months and I couldn't be happier. The teachers really care and I feel like he is really developing and learning

Stephanie Chou: This is a wonderful school. The teachers in my child's classroom have taught her so much. I don't worry when I drop her off because I know she's in great hands. My mother in law is impressed with how much her Mandarin has improved in just a few months. If you're interested in your child learning or improving on a second language, this is a great place for your child.

Angie Fernandez: .

Erin Walker: We have attended a number of Montessori programs in the Bellevue/Redmond area with our two children and IMA provides a wonderful combination of the Montessori environment with learning another language! We are so thrilled to have this opportunity for our younger child who is currently in IMA's Spanish program. Our older child currently attends Puesta del Sol Elementary and we are confident that IMA will provide a wonderful foundation for our younger child to develop the love of learning...my only wish would be for the Bellevue School District to incorporate more Montessori learning into their curriculum! We have been attending IMA since the opening of this location in October 2013 and it has provided a rich environment for our child to learn and develop. Also, the summer program last year was perfect for our older child to venture into learning a third language! Thank you IMA for providing this remarkable environment for our children to grow in!!

Ann Wu: Ordered the Kotteri Ramen and I got to say how solid this bowl of ramen was. The broth was rich with black garlic flavor and more importantly, not too salty. The noodles were cooked perfectly and got the bouncy, chewy texture. Pork slices were tender, although pretty standard. I love how hearty this bowl tasted on a cold, rainy day. Service was attentive, atmosphere was so cozy- got the true, Japanese vibe.

Sads A: I’m so glad to stumble upon this place. I could say it may be the best ramen I had so far, and I have had a lot of ramens. I ordered the kotteri ramen, and it did not disappoint. The roasted garlic, garlic oil , flavor was mind blowing. If you want something more spicier and traditional taste, go with the malla ramen. It’s just as good! Please order the spicy ayam goreng, whether you are ordering ramen or not. So crispy and tender at the same time. Don’t forget to drizzle the lime. You can thank me later. Will be back again!Just beware of parking and the surroundings. It’s not the most clean place and a lot of homeless people around.

Joe Tip: . They bring food out and bus your table for youFriendly staff and great ramen.

Maria Luisa: It is the best ramen I have had in Seattle, I have tried many that do not even deserve a rating but none as good as this, so far it is the best I have tried 100% approved and I recommend itthis is the menu:https://ooink-capitolhillself-ordering.square.site/store/status/rCXVBb4mzG2nyClCKv7YJ6yPWdWZY/confirmation

Erik H.: I have been thinking and thinking I'm trying to remember when I was at your establishment. I just remembered that I actually stopped out front to update an app on my phone. I didn't go in and order anything simply because I didn't have time but I do remember the aromas emanating from the cooking were mouth-watering and I thought if the food is half as good as the aromas this is definitely a place to come back to. I will do just that, in the meantime I'll just thank you for giving me some scents!

Seattle Jiu-Jitsu Academy: what do users think?

Jesse Barracoso: . I was very wrong. I got absolutely whupped on. My mediocrity was revealed by SJJA's then small number of members and the 12-15 nightly sparring rounds. I stayed and have been a member for a few years now and am grateful to know that there will never be a shortage of challenging training partners at SJJA.Non-traditional, no bowing, no warm-ups, no masters, lots of metal.

Mikayla Carias: ~1.5 years ago.The class schedule provides room for lots of mat time. Saturday open mat is free to anyone. The training partners are great people and consist of many upper belts. Finally, the SJJA community is supportive, welcoming, hard working, and knowledgeable. If you’re new, looking to continue, for the hobbyist training, or interested in competitions - SJJA is that atmosphere!PS. You might get some sick action shots cause some of our members are very good 📸

Yonas Meshesha: Best gym in the Seattle area by far. Gym is very large and can host a lot of people rolling, clean and hygienic, and awesome culture. The best thing about SJJA is the way Dave runs class, in which you have time to develop your own style/game through consistent live rounds. Highly recommend joining!

Gabriel Moss: I can’t tell you how much I appreciate this gym; not only as someone who is new to martial arts but also as someone who historically is a bit of a back-of-the-classroom introvert. Dave has done a fantastic job of not only creating a top environment for learning BJJ but also creating a corresponding community around that same environment. Can’t recommend enough 5/5

Jonathan Kling: than some places get in a whole week!

Tim Tetrault: This is a great BJJ academy with an experienced professor and is filled with people dedicated to developing their game, fitness, and being solid training partners.

Dylan Kohl: This has been my first experience with bjj, everyone has been very kind and willing to help. It has been a great experience for me as a beginner.

本田雅一(ジャーナリスト): I had a wonderful experience at this gym when I traveled to Seattle from Tokyo. Friendly, not awe inspiring, and everyone enjoys the soft rolls. If you are a jiu-jitsu practitioner and visiting Seattle, I would definitely recommend stopping by. And if you live near Seattle, you are very lucky. I encourage you to knock on this gym's door.My friend who lives in Tokyo told me that there is no better place to travel to Seattle to practice. But that story is not correct. Because there is SJJA.I will be 57 years old this year. I am a Master 6 blue belt, and SJJA has welcomed me warmly.

J Westberg: Dropped in to the noon class when I was visiting seattle for a work conference. One of the “tells” I’ve figured out over my many years of training, of how good a school is, is how hard the students grip fight. These guys all grip fought like demons! I knew within five minutes I would be in a battle from white up to black. The training was wonderful and just what I needed after stumbling off a long cross country flight. The facility is clean and has a great layout. Dave was a great host and his students were all warm, friendly, and trained hard; within a few minutes of chatting with everyone I felt like I was at home. Highly recommend dropping in if you are an out-of-towner. Thanks, Dave and crew for being generous hosts. Hope to see you all again.

Ben A: Traveling to the Seattle area and was able to attend a Tuesday morning No-Gi class. The instructor was easy to understand and gave a wonderful step by step approach to the training.Everyone was super friendly and welcoming.

Rob: I was in town for a conference and stopped by Seattle Jiujitsu Academy to get some rounds in during their 6 p.m. class. The head instructor, Dave, has built up a crazy group of conditioned athletes! The instruction was great and there is a solid hour of rolling after the teaching is done. At least 12 five-minute rounds with 20 seconds between rounds. Everyone that I rolled with was very respectful and talented. I advise anyone dropping by make sure you practice defending collar sleeve!Looking forward to stopping by again the next time I am up in Seattle!

Andre Dayani: Top notch BJJ gym. I love this place. Professor Dave Stegman is a devoted lifelong student of martial arts and it shows in his teaching. He shares many wisdoms about training effectively and at the highest competitive levels. There are many patient upper belts that will take time with you as you’re developing your game as a white belt. The gym has a culture of safe practicing, and from what I’ve seen, egos are left at the door. If you want to learn to roll in a beautiful and clean space, come to SJJA, no doubt. You’ll get the most out of any practice when you commit, so if you do come train, come with your whole heart and stick with it!

Ken Lee: Coach Mt and training staff were very welcoming despite being my first time training outside of my hometown. Instructions were clear and rolls were very challenging. Would def be back

Zoo Hi: Very nice community!Definitely recommend this gym for anyone who wants to do cross training or visit from out state if you love rolling!

Martin Gonzalez: Awesome teaching, structure and vibes. I was from out of town looking to keep training. Professor Dave was very accommodating and welcoming. Definitely would recommend to out of towers and locals.

Jeremy Salazar: If you’re looking to challenge yourself mentally and physically this is the place to go. I’m visiting from out of town and everyone treated me great. The rolls were hard, but this team will make sure they take care of you and not hurt you. Amazing atmosphere! Thank you so much for having me!

Kirsten: Visiting Seattle from out of state and wanted to keep training. Highly recommend SJJA for training, fantastic instruction, and experience. Attended the early morning No-Gi class. Everyone was incredibly welcoming, instruction was fantastic, and we went through several different techniques. Thank you for having me! Will definitely be back.

Jimmy Crackers: Top notch Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from an instructor who cares. It's great moving up in belts, but only if you know what you're doing. If you move up a belt level here, you can be assured you know what you're doing against another person who knows BJJ. Not all places can say that.

Marcus S: Super nice school.. bunch of friendly killers.Came for the open mat and got 15 rounds in, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Thanks again to the head instructor Dave !

Syed Salahuddin Maruf: Good

J M B: I'm not quite all the way through the program but close, and I gotta say this place is fantastic. Very very fun, very very informative. I've spent time at three different schools post high school and this is far and away the best experience I've had.

Riggse Izzyune: Great staff, state of the art learning tools

Travis McIntyre: Fantastic instructors at the facility! Everybody here is very friendly and Barbara does a super job assisting students and answering any maritime related questions you have. A great place to get you started in the maritime industry!

Paul Stan: One of the best career moves you can make is going to this school. In order to succeed in the marine trades you need to be in good health, reasonably smart, persistent and responsible. Given that this school can provide you with the opportunity and information you need to start.P. Stan engineer

Japanese Cultural & Community Center of WA: what do users think?

Tally Ellis: Attended the Matcha and Mindfulness class with instructor Bonnie and had the best experience! Her class was intimate, engaging, and was more than we could have expected. We learned about the rich history of tea and she even provided treats to pair with the drinks. I would highly recommend if you are curious about the history of matcha and learn how to make it on your own. The space was beautiful and we look forward to engaging in the work at the Japanese cultural and community center again soon!

Ciara: I visited this Japanese cultural & community center today, I had a great time over there, and The office lady provided very nice and helpful service to me. Even though it is not a big school, there is a library, museum, historical stuff, free books, kitchen, and some Japanese traditional displays. It took me 15 to 20 minutes to finish the visit.I was wondering if I could take in-person Japanese classes, but they just provide online classes. The good thing is it has a good price for a quarter of online learning.  I hope they can provide some in-person Japanese classes for speaking practice. They are also have some events, if you guys are interested in it, you can check from their website. They are membership is about 35 bucks, and then can enjoy their discount for classes and books, also can enjoy their library and something else.Overall, it is a good place to visit!

Miguel Nunez: I visited their museum a few days ago and was highly impressed with their organization. They provided an excellent tour guide who gave me rich details on the history of Japanese Americans and Japanese immigrants in the US and Seattle. The artwork was beautiful, the historical artifacts looked well preserved and the friendly and informative tour guide definitely increased my learning and enjoyment. The organization also has offered Japanese language courses for more than 100 years and has been an active community center in the Seattle area for decades. I would highly recommend this organization to anyone seeking to learn more about Japanese American history and culture.

Hannah Sogawa: The Japanese language school is awesome—lots of levels and times available. Highly recommend!

D Sawyer: The JCCCW is a happening place. Want to learn the Japanese language? Want to join a karate class? How about taiko drumming? These groups and multiple other community organizations use the JCCCW's campus, so it's a great place to try new activities, meet people, and do some shopping.Which is what I often do--shopping at the Hoseikibako, a store inside the JCCCW. A cuter used-goods boutique shop in Seattle is hard to find. The items are Japanese and are donated from the community and are a GREAT bargain. Decor, crafts, handkerchiefs, art, books; there's a lot to see and buy! And the proceeds support the JCCCW's building upkeep, community outreach, and programs. Win-win!Update: for people who need mobility assistance, the JCCCW remodelled two or three years ago, including a new elevator. There is an interior breezeway between the two buildings, which is a gently sloping ramp.

El: This place is a hidden gem and the staff is always super friendly!

Masako S: Hosekibako reminds me of when I grew up in Japan. Piece of my past life, which is a treasure. Nice volunteers are so helpful.

D W: Everything Japanese

Sarah Heil: Perfect to connect with the Japan community.

rock nemeth: A great chance to peek into the historic experiences of the Seattle area Japanese community, their struggles, and successes, and indomitable spirit.
