Salmon Bay Paddle: what do users think?

Lauren Takahashi: These guys are so awesome!  Rob was super helpful squeezing me in last min for lessons during the busy holiday season.  Coach Robert was extremely knowledgeable and patient, and tailored the lessons for the specific trip I was preparing for.  He took the time to talk through the gear I would most likely be provided with on the trip - and how it would function and differ from what we were using in the lessons.  I really appreciated his attention to detail and thoroughness!  He helped me greatly with stroke efficiency and I left our lessons feeling confident about my trip.  My time learning from him was invaluable and allowed me to have a safe, fun, and amazing time on the trip.  Wonderful experience with Salmon Bay Paddle, highly recommend them!

chris davis: Booked a half day two person surf ski lesson with Rob. He provided detailed instructions on how to set up and take care of your gear, including options and considerations for buying with specific differences between models before we got out on the water. Once we got out, his instructions, feedback and coaching were fantastic. Rob followed up after the lesson immediately with detailed notes and instructions on what to look for and where to buy gear. If you’re new to paddling or looking for more knowledge of the paddling areas around the PNW, I would highly recommend taking a lesson and or doing a guided expedition with Salmon Bay Paddle. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot too! Overall a great experience. Thanks Rob!

Jason Fontenot: Booked a day surf ski lesson with Salmon Bay Paddle. I had a fantastic time with Rob He provided detailed background on surf ski's, helped me understand the options and considerations for buying and the differences between models, instructions and consistent coaching. If you’re new to paddling or paddling in the PNW, I would highly recommend taking a lesson and or doing a guided expedition with Salmon Bay Paddle. Top notch. I'll be coming back.

Savage Rolleye: Had a fantastic time with Rob and his co-coach Jac! They both provided detailed instructions and consistent coaching. If you’re new to paddling or paddling in the PNW, I would highly recommend taking a lesson and or guided expedition with Salmon Bay Paddle!

Chris Hughes: but there really is no substitute for the amount of attention & coaching you get in a one on one class. I did a downwind and just kind of “all around” SUP class with Rob in the Puget Sound and I had so much fun. I learned a bunch of new techniques and he improved on what I thought I already knew. He has an alumni FB group for his students and said I can hit him at any time for more advice.Great value for money, I would do that class again in a heartbeat. Thanks Rob!

Trina Hahn: Anyone who paddles in the Puget Sound will benefit from taking Robert Nissenbaum's Tides and Currents course. After taking his class, I feel more prepared navigating through the different conditions of the Puget Sound. Robert's class provides helpful information that is for any level of kayaker, paddle boarder, or anyone else interested in a new paddlesport. Robert is a wonderful and knowledgeable instructor who makes learning new concepts easy and fun. His teaching style is approachable and casual and he is passionate about sharing this crucial information to keep paddlers safe and prepared. Whether in a classroom or on the water, I strongly recommend Robert's classes and will definitely be taking more Salmon Bay Paddle classes in the future!

Mike Liddell: I took a 3hour one-on-one novice surfski lesson with Rob and had a really great experience. Rob is hugely knowledgeable and also very patient with newcomers. I went in hoping to get the early tips that everyone wishes they had at the start of a new sport and Rob's lesson was spot on - stability tips, paddling technique, boat handling, boating conventions and etiquette, safety and gear info etc. My basic paddling in chop was going well so Rob also helped me make a start on wake riding and the concepts for down-winding. Once I get some more experience I'll be back for more. Thanks Rob!

Iman Elarabi: My son had 3 sessions with Jac one of Salmon Bay Paddle instructors and it was one of the best experiences ever. He learned a lot about the board, being safe in the water, the tide and currents and had lots of fun paddling around as well. Important to mention how Rob was really helpfu to coordinate these classes smoothly. Highly recommend these classes and looking forward to register my son in more class with Salmon Bay

Maria Liquori: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueProvides a great range of sports services. Very well organized events and classes.

Jennifer Bowman: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessI thoroughly enjoyed my class on currents, tides and navigation held at deception pass this weekend. His attention to detail and patience was thoroughly enjoyable.

Erika O'Leary: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI have had the great pleasure of having classes with Robert on back to back weekends. He is professional, friendly, and very skilled at this instruction. I'll be back for classes over and over again.

Andrei Lopatenko: it's a great place to take kayak classesI learned from Robert in a private classHe helped me to advance a lot, especially in recovery techniques, strokers and many other thingsHe is a very devoted coach giving very helpful individualized instructions. Also he helped me a lot with selecting gearI highly recommend Salmon Bay Paddle

Carlos Ochoa: I took the ultimate lesson and it is a positive life changing experience, the knowledge of the instructors is both deep and wide, they are resourceful, patient, and not only great watermen professionals but also great teachers and guides. Taking a lesson with them is a must, without regard of your level. You will get also nice pics to show off.

Andrew Lohrmann: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI took the Sup 2 with them on Saturday. It was a very rewarding experience. The instructor, Harry, was adaptable, informative and very knowledgeable of paddle boarding. He made three hours feel like 15 minutes and taught me a whole new way to see Seattle.

Yamil Merced: I wish everyone could take a class or two with Rob so that we could have more safe and prepared paddlers. Very fun and interesting experience. I learned about local water conditions, equipment, technique, safety and local places to go paddle. Great investment overall. I’m planning on signing up for more classes with Rob and his team.

Sue Rogers: I took the SUP Basics 102 Course after corresponding with Rob Casey about my goals and experience with SUP. Having all of this amazing water to explore in my back yard, it is important to me that I do it safely. I rode home after the session- even more excited bout this sport than before. I was amazed how much we covered in our first session and I can't wait to continue to take more lessons and classes from Salmon Bay Paddle. I drove home with a deep appreciation of the work that I need to l operate safely out on the water and a clear picture of what I need to do to get to my goals thanks to the recourses, experience gained in the Basics 102 session and his patient instruction. The class not only was informative but challenge me as well.

John Grauer: Rob and Harry are outstanding SUP instructors. They know the paddle board industry and are willing to share there knowledge to make you better. Rob excels in the technical areas and his teaching provides insight in helping you increase your skills. I have taken the instructor training and the Deception Pass's tidal rapids class and both experiences were outstanding. The classes were held in epic places in the PNW. Salmon Bay Paddle will make you a better paddler and you will have a good time doing it!!

patrick ragen jr: Harry is a terrific instructor! I highly reccomend him for his patience, attention to detail and enthusiasm. Whether you're a beginner or just want to improve your skills, he can get you started quickly and up your game. He focuses on safety, theory and technique, and made sure everyone had fun. Booked him recently and despite challenging conditions, everyone came away feeling great about their experience.

L M: Just like the other reviewers, I can't say enough positive things about my experience with Rob of Salmon Bay Paddlers. With COVID preventing my other sport, I've been paddleboarding a lot lately on Lake Sammamish. I've only done rec paddleboarding on holidays before so I wanted to check out formal training so that I could improve my skills and feel safe going out on the Sound or other larger, busier bodies of water that I'm far less familiar with.Rob is a wealth of information, I'm a rower so I have some water skills but not others and he was perfect at covering what I needed and skipping past what I already knew. He answered a variety of my questions about everything from currents to wetsuits to boards to racing.I walked away feeling he's not only the expert but he really loves both paddleboarding itself as well as helping others enjoy paddleboarding. I can't wait to sign up for more training from him.

Ethan Gibson: My boyfriend and I took the SUP Basics class with Rob. He was super informative, patient, and a great teacher overall. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on, I really appreciated the extra steps he took to make sure we were all properly distanced and safe.Rob provided good, no-nonsense advice from buying a board to making sure you're not an idiot on the water. Highly recommended.

Northwest Outdoor Center: what do users think?

Krissi B: Came here with my partner and a few friends. The employees were incredibly kind, helpful and answered all of our questions. They gave advice and sent us on our way. What a fun experience to kayak in the bay on a sunny gorgeous day. When we returned about 30 minutes late, the current can be really strong especially with the wind, we expected and were happy to pay for the additional time. The employees wouldn’t let us. We already thought they were great, but that was unexpected and truly generous! We’ll definitely be back in the future, and we’ve already recommended our friends visit them. If you’re thinking about it: do it!Scared of the water or unsure if this is right for you? Do it anyways! The staff will make you feel so at ease!

Greg Bush: The people here are helpful beyond customers service. It's nice to have them try spyayskirts on my kayak. They have offered to loan equipment to me in the past. Friend of mine bought gloves, didn't like them after the paddle, they gave him a different pair no questions. I'm a fan of REI for their quality and return policy. BUT NWOC is my goto for paddle related anything. Can't stress how helpful these guys are and being right on the water is helpful too.

Pao M: Great experience

Kumar Vaibhav: Good place to kayak. $23/hr will take that any day. Kayaks comes with foot paddle and that makes steering really convenient. SLU is always a great place to Kayak anyways - so if it's sunny it's a great time to come out here and kayak. Lovely folks at counter.

David Air: . Even had some spare sunscreen that definitely saved my hide on the sunny day!

Prajwal Pyakurel: The staff were very nice and professional

Mia James: Very good service.

dmp: Best people ever work here, they’re so helpful and kind. I regularly rent their kayaks and have also rented the paddle boards a few times, and they have pretty good equipment.

Ballard Kayak & Paddleboard Tours: what do users think?

Shoba Varma: He was funny and we had a great time! Highly highly recommend!

Karen Fallen-Rhodes: Wonderful day on the water! Saw a mother and baby seal together, herons, cormorants, salmon in full migration, and a sea lion, all up close! Really perfect day. Blaine made it all so easy and comfortable for two beginners, never felt uneasy for a second, and stayed almost completely dry. Going through the locks was thrilling. The weather was perfect and we learned not only kayaking basics that give us more courage for taking our own kayak in the future, but also made us eager to try the sunsent and discovery point tours next summer! Learned a lot of nature facts and history of Seattle that we didn't know before from Blaine as well. Highly highly recommend for a different view of Seattle! You wil get a whole new appreciation of the locks by going through them this way!

Sylvie Nemeth: the kayaks. See the video! We also saw lots of kingfishers, cormorants, herons, an osprey, and got an up close view of a bald eagle tearing into a salmon. Our guide, Lindsay, was so personable and made sure everyone was comfortable and having fun. It's definitely beginner friendly, but my partner and had very tired arms by the end

John Sapovits: Great experience and would highly recommend! My girlfriend and I visited Seattle in July 2023 and we had an interest in kayaking with no prior experience. We decided to do the Discovery Point tour and were not disappointed. We booked the early morning tour on a weekday and it turned out we were the only ones booked so it was like a private lesson and tour. Our guides Lindsay and Patrick were awesome and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip. We saw plenty of wildlife and the weather was perfect. Easy to book and a great experience for the cost!

Meredith Singletary: Had a great time on the locks tour.

Nicholas Doyle: Best place for kayaking in the area. Great staff, equipment, and location.

Danielle Strl3: A++++ kayak tour up & down the boat elevator, with a cool trip along the channel out & back- sights include cool rail bridge, tons of seals, sick real estate/landscaping, LIVE SEALS EATING SALMON+sunbathing.... felt very safe the whole time, saw a whole different side of seattle, and extremely first-timer friendly. I cannot swim, was not even worried about it.In our group, it was mostly adult couples, odd numbered parties get to row in a tandel kayak paired with one of the guides.

Rachel Beard: We had a fantastic tour with Lindsay today! We saw seals and jumping salmon and so many birds! We also saw starfish and crabs. Going through the locks was definitely a unique experience, but the wildlife was incredible. And Lindsay was so fun to chat with. We learned a lot!! I would definitely come back and kayak with Ballard Kayak again.

Tanzi Leary: Great tour of Ballard Lock. The guides were awesome, and we saw lots of seals, birds, jellyfish, and starfish. Unique experience and lots of fun. There was a little downtime waiting for lock entry/ departure, so you aren't paddling for hours straight.

MGMS W: We booked a 1:30-3:30 kayak tour and it was awesome! We happened to be there when the tide was at its lowest and our guide told us that is the best time to see all the sea creatures! Our guide Lindsey was awesome! He pointed out starfish, crabs, seals and eagles! He educated us on Puget sound and was so personable and funny. I think Ballard Kayak is the go-to spot for tours on and around the Sound!

Candice Larson: Great private roll lesson with Ayla! She has a calm patient demeanor, and was great at helping fine tune skills needed.

Steve Hurley: My group kayak rolling class dwindled to just me. Rather than canceling the class and refunding me, BK offered a private lesson. My instructor Ayla was great, very supportive, clear in her communication.

Daniel Widolff: I had a great time on the Lock tour with knowledgeable and entertaining guide Lindsay! If possible, take a tour during low tide to view areas normally hidden by high tide. Thank you again Lindsay!

Mountain to Sound Outfitters: what do users think?

Rob Braby: SUPER helpful, knowledgeable and personable staff. I’ve both rented and purchased from M2S and each experience has been great. They operate like a local ski shop should - friendly, laid back, not rushed, and don’t push sales. The staffers seem to enjoy their jobs and want to help.I wanted to give Noah a shout out for a great consultation on demo skis today! He walked me through a lot of detail on different skis, considerations for purchasing, and his experience demoing the different options.

Carl Silverberg: There is a good reason this is my go-to place for ski & kayak equipment. Always get great advice! I went to get a pair of goggles at the end of season sale and left with a helmet/goggle all in one combo. I used it this week at Alyeska and for the first time I was able to wear my glasses while skiing. It's a great system, we tried a few, the Giro worked the best and the input from MTS was fantastic.

Sahil Ashar: Bought my first snowboard season rental from them for the 24/25 season - reasonably priced, great quality, and was overall a fantastic experience. Hal and Shannon are excellent, highly recommend!

Darren Mills: Just purchased all snowboarding gear at a great discount! Thank you, Koa and Shannon you were super helpful and very nice!

Ed Failano: The shop employees are extremely helpful, caring and knowledgeable. I grew up in Hawaii visiting my local surf shop as a teen and the vibe these cats at MTN to Sound remind me of the good old days and how they work to earn your biz. They also let me browse without expectation of purchasing even though I’d rather give them biz because they’re a mom and pop shop. Shop here and you won’t regret the expert service and great selection!

Dune Desormeaux: Fantastic experience getting our first adult skis from M2S. Service was great, location was convenient, selection rocked, and we are super happy with the results!

Caitlin Boulware: As if you needed another excuse to shop local! Only good experiences with everyone at the shop, the selection is great, the prices are right, and Koa was the right person to help us find our new favorite skis. No pressure, only solid guidance from very friendly folks.

Kody Henderson: Knowledgeable people. Fast service. Was able to get my skis tuned up in one day. Making sure I will be set for my trip.

Isaac Conlen: I had a great experience at this ski shop! they were friendly and knowledgeable. I picked up snowboard wax for use at home, got a hot wax on my board, and also got my kids ski bindings adjusted on the spot! Highly recommended!

Sebastian Arrangoiz: Super friendly staff and good service!

Emil Gregor: Got a hot wax done real quick. Nice local shop with a lot of gear and sales.

emma sancartier: Great service, Thank for a super speedy board wax!

N: Greta prices and a variety!

Linh Vũ: This place is our family's go-to for snow gear. Koa knows his stuff and set my husband up with his first board. The whole staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend!!

Heather Corbin: I feel extremely lucky to have these guys in my neighborhood. They have helped me out with some stubborn boot repairs and took care of my neglected/wellloved skiis. They also saved me when I was heading out to the North Cascades and had forgotten to get extra strap for securing my skies to the snowmobile. Solid local business.

andy luley: I've bought snowboarding gear and gotten my boots fitted here. The staff are all very friendly and knowledgable, and I never felt like they were talking down to me or anything. Very inclusive

Neil Kanungo: Awesome service for my snowboards and good guidance from the staff!

Thomas Prieur: I’ve come in a couple times and have had great experiences talking with the staff about winter equipment! I definitely will be recommending this to friends that are looking to rent or buy, and will be back for summertime sport gear for sure.

Justin Mikitaroff: Awesome service and selection of anything you need!

Jordan Afaga: The staff here were super friendly in helping me getting my board ready for the slopes! Hot wax service was excellent. Would definitely recommend!

Sail Sand Point: what do users think?

Chris S: Great place for sailing lessons and rentals. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

J: These guys are awesome.

avi wylen: Great place to swim

Zach Mitchell: I recommend this place to new and would-be sailors often.Have taken 4 lessons from here over the years and also a member. There’s no place around that you can get up and sailing for such little money. A year membership is the cost of a few fenders for your cruising sailboat.Their watercraft are in pretty good condition, staff are friendly, usually college-aged kids who all enjoy the place.Overall it’s a very positive community environment.

Linda Walker-Pedowitz: My favorite spot to watch the boats...

Prasanna Narayanan: One of the greatest beaches around lake Washington area. Great place for launching sailboats, rowing/kayaking. This place also has a gym. Very close to NOAA. There is a leash free park - Magnusson park close by. Plenty of activities for everyone.

Debra Zimmerman: We had an absolutely wonderful experience setting up a private lesson for 5 on the J24. It was a last minute rental for our family coming in from Okinawa on leave from the Air Force and the dockmaster was super accommodating. This sunset lesson was incredible. Thank you to Miller for his calm demeanor. Can’t recommend enough!

tony k: The pier provides great fun for teens and up. The beach is fun for all. Several convenient options for hand launched no powered boats

Oscar Lage Rivera: We had two reservations for two different days. They called each of us several times to reconfirm the reservation. You must make sure that the payment has been made or your reservation may be cancelled. Apart from that, the entire team was very kind to us and the contract was made very quickly. We will repeat.

Praphul: What a beautiful experience!Great place to learn for first timers.Van was really helpful and knowledgeable!

University of Washington Waterfront Activities Center (WAC): what do users think?

Phil Wolff: A 1

Vic: This was almost perfect. The staff is super nice, the cost was reasonable. One concern was that no one asked if we knew how, and while I did know how, there was an issue specific to the kind of kayak that I would like to have been aware of. Lots of birds and some turtles, and you can see that the environment is being maintained so that the native plants thrive.

Danny Tram: 04/07/23: It was my first time using WAC services. At the time of this review, they only let me rent a canoe. In the summer, you have a chance to rent both kayaks and canoes. The staffs are UW students and their staff. UW employees and students will get good discounts when renting. I had good memory of sailing in Union Bay overseeing the Lake of Washington. The weather was nice, not windy, and beautiful. Looking forward to the next rental if possible

Nick Nuechterlein: . The water was still, and the cascades were clear in the crisp
