Off the Wall School of Music: what do users think?

Rachel Knecht: My son went to Off the Wall for over two years for guitar and really loved it! Nick taught him so much and was always thoughtful and in-tune to what my son was interested in. I also loved the office staff! They were always so helpful and quick to respond to emails and texts. Highly recommend for any level. They meet the students where they are at and I couldn’t have been happier with our experience.

Yanhua Chen: We are with Off the Wall School of Music for over six months and we are very happy with it. My both kids are learning piano from Mr. Reuben. He is an amazing piano teacher, very knowledgeable and patient!

Sage Stevens: Awesome teachers for all ages, great facilities and opportunities to perform at good venues. We've had a fantastic experience at Off The Wall

Jen D: We have had nothing but positive experiences with Off the Wall in person and online for lessons. Both our kids especially love having Matt Moore for drums - he's engaging, encouraging, and just simply rad as a teacher.

Eve Lake: Our 5 and 7 year old love their piano lessons with Tatyana. Highly recommend!

gtberg: I'm so happy to have found Off the Wall. Awesome place to not only take lessons, but having access to practice rooms is wonderful for me and those students who don't have a piano yet. Chris was very welcoming when I came by for the first time.

Sarah Mahoney: Best place in the city to learn an instrument. Plus, these top-notch practice pianos are available for use outside of lesson times. Friendly and clean environment.

Patti Feavel: I bring my dreams to Off the Wall. They seem to be just dreams. But then staff take them and help me to walk those steps to make my dream happen. My teacher, Caleb, teaches me with so much warmth, good humor, and solid advice so that I will stay encouraged as I meet each challenge and master each accomplishment. I am so impressed, while I am waiting for my lesson in the lobby, at the warmth and joy that staff extend to each child, family member, and adult aspirant. They encourage us all to revel in the joy of music. I am 67 years old and I am thrilled to fill out my life with grounded practice and all the help I need to understand what I am wanting to accomplish. And yes, my dream: I want to be able to accompany myself while I sing standards. My very secret dream is to play at a bar regularly for one hour before happy hour when there are not that many people around. I will pretend that I am Dooley Wilson in Casablanca singing "As Time Goes By."

Dan Roberts: I have had a fantastic experience with Off the Wall! I was searching for a piano teacher to expand my musical horizons - I have played brass instruments at a "strong amateur" level for many years, and wanted to learn keyboard to get better at theory and improvisation. My teacher Caleb was wonderful. He was quickly able to hone in on what I wanted out of lessons, and what I needed to do in order to get there, allowing me to set my own pace and giving me just the right level of direction, motivation and accountability. I am so much stronger musically as a result. Thanks Caleb, and thanks Off the Wall!

Mia Esther: Off The Wall School Of Music is an awesome community to be in. All the teachers are so friendly. Your music life will change for the better. I had a bad experience in Middle School but it changed forever in Highschool. Most students don’t like seeing this black and white they rather have color coded like i did from the last 5 years with being with the whole school. All the staffs are trying to spread by saying that we want our students to love music and maybe in a band. I want to thank my good friend Chris Marx.

Lillian Morris: This is heaven in a place. I have gone to camp here twice every year since I was eight and I can't express in words how magical this school is. It's amazing to be in a place where everyone is there to learn and have fun. It's obvious no one is there to hurt anyone. Everyone that works there is so fabulous I can't imagine a better place. If you can imagine this really doesn't sum up how amazingly awesome this school is. They have taught me to love music!

Amanda Capella: . We've been attending lessons for about a year or so and also participated in the summer rock band camp this year. He had so much fun! Every day was playful and exciting for him. This business has definitely shaped my son's appreciation for music, and I know it'll be a memory in his heart he'll never forget.

Kristina Simpson: We just started drumming and piano lessons for my kids and already they are learning so much!! Super friendly, energetic teachers who are clearly passionate about music.

Jake Escobar: I grew up learning at Off the Wall, and they helped me kickstart my musical career. A+, highly recommended.

He does a great job of pushing you to do more, while keeping lessons stress free and fun. Thank you, Darryl!

Nicole: Shout out to teacher Jonah! My ten year old daughter started violin in the fall and she's already playing multiple pieces. She says" I like how he lets me play independently and then adds the duet. And also that he is very nice."

It's so special to have the opportunity to expose her to live music and movement with a great teacher and other kiddos; this class is one of the highlights of our week!

Zach Patten Ferreira: and I love how she explains techniques that have drastically improved my singing.

Kyri Khouri: Hi - Our daughter has taken flute lessons with Christine at Meter this year. Christine is a wonderful teacher, she is the reason why our daughter is motivated and continues to play and practice playing the flute happily. We are very grateful for her.We have been with Meter since they opened and only have to say good things! Thank you for supporting music learning in our neighborhood! Kyri

J K: My kid has been taking lessons here for over 7 years. We have really enjoyed meter music. Great for introducing little ones to music and allowing them to find their instrument. I have seen both the more disciplined student and the beginners and both are welcome. It’s been great to be apart of the meter community and we look forward to many more years at meter.

Mirsa D: Decided to learn the guitar as an adult and Meter school has been the perfect place for it! My instructor Ricky C is beyond knowledgable about music and I see improvements in my learnings every time we meet. Shout-out to Meagan running the front desk and providing any support needed.

Yumi Pick: The teachers here are wonderful. Communication with staff is easy. Ever since Emily Stephenson has been my daughter’s piano teacher she’s improved leaps and bounds. She actually gets her to play classical music without too much complaining! Our daughter looks forward to her lessons with Emily. She is getting a well-rounded education with theory and technique.

Matthew Cary: We've been taking lessons at Meter Central District for 4 years and have been extremely happy. The front office has been super flexible and helpful in finding lesson times and scheduling. Our son's teacher, Emily Stephenson, is fabulous. He has started in piano, but as he began playing trombone in concert band at his school, she's been able to do a hybrid class and work on both instruments. He looks forward to going to music lessons, need I say more?

Jack Nelson: I'm glad I finally bit the bullet and signed up for guitar lessons after noticing this place in my neighborhood. Daniel has been a great teacher for this beginner - exceedingly patient and encouraging, with plenty of helpful tips.

Lauren Rolfe: . They are patient and easygoing with my kids, who then come home excited to practice. Meter is also really great about scheduling makeups or pivoting to online lessons when needed. Highly recommend for kids looking to try an instrument for the first time.

I A: , to being occasionally proud of what I can do. You’re amazing Emily 🙌🏽

Ileana L.: My children have been attending music lessons at Meter for 8 years…teachers have foster their love for making music while having fun. Thank you

Meany Parent & Community Outreach: Our family loves Meter Music School! Convenient location, online lessons, available, wonderful teachers.

Sound Music School: what do users think?

Ingrid Wheelock: As an older student, I've found Sound Music School an amazing, enriching experience. I've taken both guitar and vocal lessons here, and both of my instructors have been outstanding. Mike Keeney has put a ton of work into creating a topnotch school; he has taken time to choose instructors who know how to TEACH, which is a skill not all musicians possess. The emphasis on affordable weekly lessons helps to ensure improvement and increases connection with one's instructor. I can't say enough about this great school!

Vanessa Dias: Great school, with the best instructors!

Shiyu Wang: I have been learning guitar here for a year. One year ago I brought an old guitar here can’t play a whole song, but now I am much confident in playing rock guitar songs that are pretty advanced. If you are trying to improve your guitar skill and a be a serious student, then this is the right place to go.

Erica Miller: I highly recommend taking guitar lessons with Mike Keeney. I started lessons by taking advantage of his free trial lesson which was awesome for me. I've had instructors in the past who I realized weren't the best match for what I was I was trying to accomplish and the trial lesson gave me the space to feel out if Mike was going to be a good match for me! After the trial lesson I immediately knew Mike was going to be professional, skilled, easy to work with, and open-minded. I really appreciated that Mike was down to go outside of your standard lessons in music theory and cater my experience in a way that would fast track me to what I wanted to accomplish within my lessons. As a self-taught musician who has been playing in touring bands for about the last 4 years I had a lot of different strengths and weaknesses. Mike helped me hone in on areas that would allow me to boost my confidence in practices and live performances while developing skills to better communicate musically with my bandmates. I believe Mike is the perfect instructor for all skill levels and backgrounds. He is an extremely talented and versatile musician. In addition to his abilities as a musician and instructor, he is patient, easy to communicate with, motivating, and understanding.

Nancy Taing: I was excited, but intimidated going in because I'm convinced I am musically-challenged. As a beginner, Mike made it easy not to get discouraged so early on. Mike covers a lot in 30 mins. I like that he gives a variety of things to work on, and provides ample feedback on ways to improve. This is perhaps the best Groupon I've ever found.

Alex Samano: Mike has been teaching our 6 year old for about 6 months. He is reading music, playing chords, and even the Pokemon song. Mike is great encouraging him and keeping him engaged.

Kelsey Coleman: My family gifted me a Groupon for ukulele lessons with Mike and I'm so glad they did! Mike is really friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and encouraging. He knows just how to keep a beginner, like me, motivated and I’m sure he could help folks with experience improve upon their skills. He has worked with me on songs that I really love, which makes practice fun. The sessions are short, but he makes sure you get the most out of them. I’m even continuing with lessons after the Groupon period is over!

Janelle B (elle): Mike Keeney is an awesome guitar teacher! I recently started taking lessons with Mike and was immediately impressed with his talent, skills, passion, professionalism, and attitude. I've always been a bit shy about playing guitar but feel at ease with Mike. I was also impressed with how quickly and competently he was able to assess my current skill level and provided specific exercises and tips to help me progress from exactly where I'm at today. I left my first lesson feeling empowered and inspired. I've worked with other very talented musicians and teachers, and I have to say, Mike Keeney is exceptional. Also, his fee's are very reasonable, and his office is comfortable and conveniently located on the south end of Aurora in Fremont.

Clarke Bisbee: If you live in the Seattle area and want to take guitar lessons with a totally awesome down-to-earth guy then I highly recommend Mike Keeney! I've had the privilege of taking lessons with Mike in the past and couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. Whatever it is you are looking to improve: technique, performance, rhythm/timing, music theory etc... Mike will help you work towards and achieve any of your musical goals. Above all Mike is a great listener, which goes a long way when learning a new instrument or skill set. If I lived in Seattle I would most definitely continue taking lessons with Mike. I'm certain my guitar chops would much appreciate his continued services as well - Rock on!

Marc Bashaw: Can't teach an old dog new tricks???? Not the case if you have the pleasure of attending Mikes guitar school. I started taking classes with Mike as an absolute beginner and after the first 30 minute lesson I walked away wanting more and confident that I could actually learn to play guitar. If you listen to Mike play you will be blown away and luckily for his students he has decided to share his knowledge to others. His passion for guitar and music is easily noticeable and the fact that he will cater your lessons to a particular music style you are interested in is a huge bonus. The best part of taking lessons with Mike is he is an awesome guy, he wants to teach you, you will want to learn and he gets excited seeing his students transition into musicians.Do your self a favor and grab lessons with Mike, your inner Rock Star will thank you!

Rebecca Fields: I had Mike as a guitar teacher for about maybe three years when he was in Palatine, Illinois, and he was the best teacher I have had. He was patient when I would mess up, but wouldn't let me off the hook when I didn't practice enough. He pushed me to become a better guitarist. I was able to enjoy myself while learning an instrument in a way that I understood and was beneficial. If I ever move to Seattle I would most defiantly have him be my guitar teacher again.

Lorenzo De Leon: Mike Keeney is a wonderful instructor and musician. He connects with people of all levels and is able to break down complicated ideas into more easily digestible pieces.

Adam Gardner: Mike is a super-positive, intelligent, humble dude who is genuinely excited to help people accomplish their musical goals. Operating out of a uber-cozy, zen-like studio off Aurora Ave, he offers a free first lesson, which I thought was cool.I played the trumpet in high school and college, and wanted to commit to getting back into music. He developed a custom program for me to learn songs but also the musical theory behind them, so I could apply the learning process to other songs on my own. Mike combines an enthusiasm for music with a solid framework for showing progress and accomplishing goals with lessons.I'd definitely recommend Mike to anyone at any point in their musical journey!

C Drewes: Mike is an excellent guitar teacher. My 12 year old daughter took lessons from Mike for 2 years. He worked with her both on acoustic and electric guitar. Mike has a huge range and brings that to the student by tailoring what he is teaching to their interests. Mike is great to work with overall. He spent time with us on several occasions researching, recommending, and setting-up new equipment. Mike's passion for creativity and precision with the guitar is evident & contagious. We miss him here in the Chicago area but enjoy listening to his CD's!

Tara Schreiner: . Mike instantly got to know Benett to determine what would help inspire Benett musically. With Mike's funny disposition, astute video game knowledge and eclectic musical taste, he was able to quickly climb into my son's head. Mike expertly taught Benett guitar fundamentals and managed to keep him coming back for more. Benett looked forward to his sessions with Mike and practiced independently so that he wouldn't let Mike down. Because of Mikes instruction, Benett made the middle school Jazz Band and he worked with Benett to solo by age 13. Mike worked with Benett for three years before relocating to Seattle. We were sad to see him leave Chicago. Mike is a great teacher, a positive mentor and an insanely talented musician

Jill Limberg: I took guitar lessons from Mike Keeney for 7 years, and it was a great experience! He is very knowlegable about all aspects of guitars and taught me a lot of great skills! His lessons are very fun and informative and I looked forward to going. He even helped me prepare for an audition for my school's jazz band and I was invited to join! My brothers also took lessons from him and had the same great experience. I highly recommend him!

Leah Danielle: Taking guitar lessons with Mike Keeney was a great experience! He is an excellent teacher, being very knowledgeable about all styles of music and guitar playing, and dedicated to helping all his students achieve their musical goals.

Seattle Jazz Academy: what do users think?

Fred Rowley: Daniel is a brilliant, talented and incredibly thoughtful jazz musician with a broad range of dazzling skills and repertoire for the guitar -- he is very, very at home in the jazz world. Besides all that, he's super approachable, relaxed and fun to be with. I've learned a ton from my lessons with him.

Andy Yeo: . And it is effective at getting me to understand how each song/technique fits into each weekly class fits into each course which fits into the broader lexicon of playing piano.2. ADVANTAGES OF GROUP BASED CLASSES WITH NONE OF THE PERKS OF ONE-ON-ONE TEACHING LOST. While there are private one-on-ones offered, the structure of the intro piano classes are group-based. You might think that that’s not sensical because it challenges the 1:1 standard that we are all familiar with - like I did. Until I ran out of teachers to go try in Seattle. The class size is limited to no more than 3-4. The studio is set up so that each student has their own digital weighted-key pianos that comes with headphones, in addition to a few acoustic pianos. Each course is centered on a concept broken into a 12-week series

Calvin: who plays piano in the ensembles I regularly play in, and I look up to greatly because of their skill. I came into my lessons skeptically because I had already been playing guitar for many years. I wasn't interested in any old guitar lesson that would be reteaching me things I had already learned. However this was not the case at SJA, Dan was able to meet me where I was at in terms of my level and has been very receptive to my interests, playstyle, and feedback. The guitar program taught by Dan has taught me so many things that have opened up my play to a new level. Additionally, all of the SJA staff is very accommodating and they present me with so many new unique learning opportunities every month, between jam sessions, concerts, masterclasses, and other resources. As a rhythm section player, these kinds of learning opportunities are rarely presented to me, I am just expected to know what to do in my ensembles. For that reason, I am so glad that I have been able to learn so much from SJA. Overall, if you are interested in jazz piano or guitar, SJA has some of the best lessons and instructors in a great environment.

John Hage: Mack is the best! I'm a gigging keyboardist that came to Seattle Jazz Academy looking to take my range to the next level and Mack has absolutely done that. He is an excellent instructor with a seemingly bottomless well of knowledge and patience. I look forward to my session every week.

Peter Lee: This review is for jazz piano lessons with Jeremy Bacon. I have really enjoyed my lessons with Jeremy so far. He is such a good player, and knows his stuff, so I can ask him for help with anything and he can always show me something I haven't tried before. He is also very flexible and patient, which I appreciate. I have never felt shamed or degraded during a lesson; whatever progress I make in a given week, he meets me where I am and we go from there. I'm learning and it's fun, and that's all I can ask.

Dipankar Ray: I could not recommend him more!

Malcolm Certain: Positive:QualityBeen taking lessons here for a bit over two years, and I went from having almost no piano ability to knowing tons of jazz standards and being able to read chords and improvise with no issues. Excellent studio!

Ryan Fay: I'm an adult amateur pianist who has a background in classical music. I started with Mack's Intro to Jazz course and was very impressed with his expertise and friendly teaching approach. The class was very informative with lots of opportunities to learn and play in a group setting. Our class had 4 people, which felt like a good balance for group instruction. It was a great first experience with jazz and served as a bridge into a new area of music that I had been interested in for a while. From there, I started to take private lessons with Mack, and he has helped my jazz understanding and playing tremendously. In the 1.5 years of lessons we've done so far, I have become much more comfortable playing my own arrangements and improvising on jazz tunes, and also have a much better understanding of jazz music theory. This has actually fed back onto a better understanding of classical music for me as well, as most classical piano instruction today does not focus on theory or improvisation skills. Mack is a very encouraging teacher who also gives you lots of feedback. Also each week he brings a new technique or skill for you to add to your library, which keeps each week's practice sessions interesting and fresh.Overall I would highly recommend Seattle Jazz Academy. It's a great community of teachers and students who all love music, which has such a positive reinforcing quality for anyone who wants to learn.

Nick McCoy: Not a student myself, but I live right above the Academy. Mack is extremely friendly and always has a nod or a smile when we cross paths. I have heard several of his students excel in their studies and improve their playing. Even if the sound drives me nuts at times, I'm glad Mack is here doing what he does 😁

Kelly Michelle O'Neill: He's funny, easy to get along with...Plus, he truly cares about his students and wants us to succeed.. he really listens and seeks to understand your goals and helps tailor each lesson to your needs and wants. I don't know how he does it..but he finds a way to make every concept he teaches fun and exciting and something to look forward to practicing. Not to mention, a truly unique and outstanding improvisor, pianist and musician. I feel truly lucky to have found Mack as an instructor and am grateful for his guidance, and hope to take lessons with him for years to come.If you are looking to take piano lessons and improve your playing with someone who cares about you and your goals, is incredibly nice, and is the best instructor ever, Mack is absolutely the teacher for you. Go Seattle Jazz Academy!

James R Lotter: Terrific studio and awesome instruction! I've taken music lessons elsewhere at different times in my life and nothing compares to the quality of teaching I get from Seattle Jazz Academy. They're super professional, incredibly talented, and skilled at passing that knowledge on to the student in a supportive environment. Set yourself up for success and enroll here if there's space.

William Chavez-Salinas: Private lessons at the Seattle Jazz Academy with Mack Grout have been phenomenal. I come from playing classical piano and Mack did a great job of assessing where I was at in my journey. He creates a curriculum that guides you through jazz fundamentals, learning different ways to improvise, blues, and practicing tips for different styles. Highly recommended for anyone on a journey to learn jazz piano!

Peter Strasser: The Seattle Jazz Academy is a fabulous jazz studio with elite musicians. I have been studying with Jeremy, an incredible pianist that can teach you just about anything you might want to learn. He has an amazing way of breaking down the fundamentals of jazz into bite sized pieces that you can work on to build a strong foundation of theory, ear training and technique. I highly recommend him as a teacher if your looking to improve beyond what you thought you were capable of!

Antonio Woods: I've had several music teachers in my life, and Mack is hands down the best.Mack structures his curriculum very carefully. The concepts build on each other, and every class he offers an attainable thing to improve on.He also gives you plenty of room to develop your own style and explore what interests you.He is good at answering questions. He loves talking through deep musical concepts, and is very passionate about it.He is also a true master of his instrument. He plays the piano with the ease that I assume only lifelong practicing jazz pianists can attain. Its fun to throw abstract ideas at him and watch him run with it immediately and play something crazy.I would absolutely recommend. The only shortcomings of his class are my own: I wish I had time to practice more. In order to get the most of his course, it's a good amount of work.

Kathryn Fernandez Sun (Katie): Positive:Professionalism,QualityI recently completed one of Mack's Intro to Jazz and Blues courses and had a fantastic experience while learning a ton. Mack has created a thoughtfully organized curriculum and does an impressive job at conveying practical knowledge and application while covering a lot of ground in just 12 weeks. I cant wait for the next one!

Michael Kroll: . I finished out 12 week course motivated and energized to keep practicing and learning on my own. Looking forward to another class.

Jeanne Heuving: I took Mack's 12-week Introduction to Jazz and Blues, and I am hooked on playing jazz and blues piano forever. I had played very little piano for many years and had always thought to return to the rudimentary jazz and blues I did in my youth. I had a steep learning curve in front of me, but Mack's excellent instruction and his weekly lesson plans brought me far beyond what I had hoped. Each week we received close to ten pages of informative descriptions of jazz and blues, exercises breaking down our learning, and well-chosen musical pieces on which to practice--all worth their weight in gold. As a college professor, I was truly impressed with how Mack laid out, paced, and demonstrated each of the weekly lessons. I am using this introductory book daily as a way of practicing on my own. I plan to take more classes in the future.

Josie Zocco: I've been taking lessons with Mack for over 2 years now. I came to him as an experienced classical pianist wanting to broaden my horizons into the world of jazz and improvision. I'm so glad I did! Mack is knowledgable, approachable, experienced, and entertaining. Our lessons are always a blast!By profession I am a piano teacher myself, so I require high-level instruction which Mack is able to provide in abundance. Whether it's a deep-dive into some esoteric theoretical concept, or improvising back-and-forth, or giving great feedback on making arrangements, Mack is always ready with helpful comments and suggestions to make my playing better.Highly recommended!!

Joey Lee: to the quality of his many students' playing to tell. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

The Music Factory: what do users think?

Jamison Johnson: I have had multiple lessons for piano, trumpet, and guitar at music factory. The musicians are local area favorites and play with known acts and projects locally and nationally/internationally in different genres as professional musicians. They also know how to work with small children all the way to adults to learn and grow in what they consider success. They have opportunities for recitals to get some experience playing for others in fun venues and put on some fun student shows that are supportive and kind for all. I highly recommend taking lessons from them and becoming part of their growing music family like I have. You won't regret the joy and education you or your children receive with care.
